Confession: I am a crazy plant lady. My room is full of potted plants. My mornings consist of opening my blinds so that the sun hits them just right and watering each one. I may or may not steal stems from other people’s bushes to grow them. But that’s not a bad thing (okay, maybe that last one’s a little weird). In fact, I think it’d do you some good to be a crazy plant lady like me.
There’s just something about waking up surrounded by life, knowing that you’re not the only thing in the room that needs to grow and survive. That sounds really cheesy, but I promise it’s also really true. There’s a little piece of the outside world just vibing in your personal space. Not only that, but it’s gratifying. You can watch something grow in real-time.
Something you helped to grow. They’re like little pets, but more low-risk. And no, they’re not big bug magnets. In fact, the plants releasing doses of oxygen helps keep your room fresh. So I might have an obsession with indoor gardening, but at least my room isn’t musty.
Even if you don’t care about the psychological, feel-good parts of plant cultivation, they’re super cute. I don’t care what your room’s aesthetic is, there’s room for the color green everywhere. And it’s trendy. Gardening isn’t just for your grandma now. Try scrolling more than three rows down the Urban
Outfitters website’s “Lifestyle” tab without coming across some ceramic plant pot shaped like
a sloth. Not to peer pressure you, but it’s what the cool kids are doing.
Like I said, my room’s shelf space is a solid 96 percent plant. That’s not totally necessary to get the benefits, but a few potted monstera plants won’t hurt.
