November Athlete Spotlights

Liz Agatucci – Field Hockey
Senior Liz Agatucci has played field
hockey for the past seven years, not only
on the East team but also for Carolina
All-Stars, an intense club team. Agatucci

is committed to play for Princeton Uni-
versity in 2020. This year, she co-cap-
tained the varsity team, and led the team

in scoring with 43 goals.
“This has been my favorite season so
far,” said Agatucci. “I think it was a little
bit different being a captain; you have to
take more responsibility and make sure
that we’re playing as a team.”

Nayoung Kim – Golf

Junior Nayoung Kim, captain of the
golf team, was the only player who had
played for East before. Coach Henry
Essey said Kim “showed tremendous
improvement from her golf skills last
year,” because her nine-hole average
dropped from 54 to 44 this season.
As well as being a team leader, she
made co-player of the year in the Big 8

conference and went to the state tourna-
ment; she hopes to do both again next

season.

Will Mascia – Soccer

Senior Will Mascia, captain of the
boys’ soccer team, led the team to a
12-2 conference record and the third
round of playoffs. As a midfielder, he
was an instrumental part in keeping the

ball moving across the field, and in lead-
ing the team.

“I’ve helped motivate the players on
the team,” Mascia said. “Next year, I
hope the seniors will give it their all and
that they’re going to keep fighting to
win every game.”

Margaret Sept – Cross Country
Freshman Margaret Sept has taken
a commanding role on the cross country
team in her first year of competing. She
led the girls’ team as the top runner with
a 5k time of 18:08 and was named the

runner of the year in the Big 8 confer-
ence. At her first high school states

meet, she placed fourth.
“I was surprised, I put pressure on

myself to do well, so it was really re-
warding to place that high,” said Sept.
