A Final Farewell

Many of you know me as the ECHO’s advice columnist. Over the years, I have tried to answer your most pressing questions such as “what do I do if I have too many women thirsting after me?,” or the opposite, “how do I rid my extreme fear of women?” or perhaps the most fundamental question of all: “why do my armpits smell?” And through responding to your deepest concerns, I feel as though I have come to know this student body very well—perhaps a little too well. So allow me to take this opportunity to impart some final pieces of advice.

If you’re anything like me, you might be wondering—what do I do from here? You might be trying to figure out which city to go to, whether or not to break up with the person you’re dating, what to major in next year, or where to work. Our next destinations could not be more diverse, but there is one thing we do have in common—we are all heading into the unknown.

This is pretty scary; there’s no doubt about it. We are leaving behind East Chapel Hill High School—yes, including the beloved tree-trunk ridden bathrooms—for foreign cities, new responsibilities, and crucial life decisions. It may be natural to feel lost along the way, so I leave you with some guiding words as we set off:

One: Graduation is not the end, it is only the beginning. Dive into the unknown with all your might because your whole life, all the wonderful and all the difficult times, will be waiting for you there.

Two: There is no such thing as a mistake unless you do not learn from it.

And three: Go get ‘em, wildcats! But please wear deodorant while doing it.

Thank you all and congratulations to the class of 2023!
